Botswana | Namibia 2021

At last we are on our way!

Exactly one year later we are ready to depart on our planned trip.

The 27 March 2020 lockdown stopped us in our tracks. The Cruizer was packed, our vouchers for Botswana wildlife areas were received, other bookings were made and we were ready to start our much anticipated trip to Botswana, Caprivi, Angola and the Kaokoveld.

We postponed all the bookings for a year and waited. Then we had to reconfirm the bookings made and rethink the route. The Angolan borders are still closed, so that section will be missed.

We received our negative PCR test results and are ready to enter Botswana.

Planned route:

Approx 12 000 km in 9 weeks.

Planned section through Botswana:

Lobatse ~ Kang ~ Pans around the Kaa section of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park: Kaa Pan ~ Swartpan ~ Thupapedi ~ Matlageng Pan ~ Kang

CKGR (Central Kalahari Game Reserve)

Maun – to do another PCR test to enter Namibia

Tiger Fishing at Caprivi Houseboat Safaris in Katima

For this section Hein and Landi plan to join us at Spitzkoppe and we travel together for more than three weeks. After our excursion at Caprivi Houseboat Safaris they turn back and we proceed to explore the Caprivi a little bit more.

Namibia with Hein and Landi

Katima to the south of Namibia:

– A few more days in the Caprivi section and then onto Epupa Falls.

– Windhoek to visit Eric’s sister and then down to Sossusvlei to experience it after the recent rains..

– NamibRand

– Aus ( we want to see the Namib wild horses)

– Keetmanshoop to visit the family

– Return to South Africa

The route is flexible and we have bookings only for the Botswana game reserves, Windpomp 14 near Swakopmund, Etosha and Caprivi Houseboat Safaris.

Updates on where we are will be posted whenever we have internet connection after a wilderness section.
